Review; CVS Minute Clinic

Posted on Mar 12, 2009 under Carter, Review | 4 Comments

After being very sick for 5 days I called a friend to come over and take a look at Carter. She suggested we take him to the doctor. (I’m so bad at making such decisions) I called our family doc, but she was gone for the day at 1pm. I made an appointment for the next day, early, but I didn’t want to wait. See, I try to treat things at home first. With common sense, rest, nutritious foods, herbal medicines, but there is sometimes, that despite my son’s request, I can’t be the doctor.
So, I thought we’d try CVS’s minute clinic. I love that you can see exactly everything they treat and the price (for those not insured) on their site.
When we got there, there was no one else waiting in the small corner of the store. After a quick computerized self registration, we were brought into a small room.
There a very nice and friendly NP did a full check out of Carter. Very gentle, very nice, she took her time. No hurry, no rush, no other sick people around. It was SO easy!
Then she just sent our prescriptions to the pharmacy (our choice) and a note to our family doc’s office and we were on our way.
A few days later, Carter received a hand written post card and a sticker from the NP, thanking him for being a great patient and hoping he felt better!
They WANTED us there, it was different and rather nice!
I won’t go there for everything…but in the right situation it’s the perfect fit!

Unmotivated

Posted on Feb 04, 2009 under Blogging, Carter, Pictures, Skye | 1 Comment

Unmotivated to do any homeschooling. I think we are turning into unschoolers. It really feels like we are doing double when I plan something. Last week unplanned we did, science, math, phys ed, literature, and more. We truly are learning all the time. I guess I’m in a transition time. Trying to figure out just what we are doing….
Unmotivated to take pictures. I think my pictures look like crap. Seriously. I need a class or something.
Unmotivated to blog. Just feel like we are so busy, but nothing worth note worthy.
Plus, facebooks is eating my time and energy.

I put my flickr photos back public. I think my blog will be password free again soon.

Skye dresses herself one day. Leggings, dress and fluffly tutu ;)
She dresses herself!

Carter set the dollhouse up by himself. Love the family bed and the unique way he thought about the space.

Carter wants to be an egg eating vegetarian who is also Christian when he grows up.

Both Carter and Skye asked Santa for a book for Christmas. I guess thats from what we do for Christmas, Something we want, something we need, something to play with, something to read.

We’ve been enjoying making homemade gift for our family again this year.

Sorry for the pause, hopefully I will be back to full time blogging again soon. Thank you to those who cared to ask why and for the log in.

Pony Rides

Posted on Sep 18, 2008 under Carter, Skye | No Comment

well it’s been two weeks since I took the kids on pony rides at Maybury. I had no idea what an effect it would have on the kids! I do a lot of things, we go a lot of places, but you never know what will really sink in. What they will really remember.
Skye has not stopped talking about it. She tells everyone about it. The horse that looked like a cow (she had spots). Me go around and around and around. Me wear helmet. Me big girl.
Carter too. Yesterday he decided he held the ‘horn’ of the saddle. And if you push it it beeps, you want to know what sound it makes? Neigh. :) I love doing things with these kids. I love that we can!
Now I just need to find out where to get this girl some pony riding lessons ;) oh, that’s right. No classes for Skye till she’s 3. Next summer….

Homeschool Week 1; Blueberries for Sal and other stuff

Posted on Sep 18, 2008 under Carter, Homeschool, Pictures, Skye, Uncategorized | 5 Comments

This was a Before Five in a Row title, so a bit on the younger side for Carter but perfect for Skye. We had lots of fun with it! The idea is that you read the book everyday for 5 days and take a different lesson from it everyday. This book is about Sal and her mother who are picking blueberries to can for the winter, of course Sal is eating more than she’s saving. On the other side of Blueberry Hill Little Bear and his mother are eating blueberries to store up for the winter. Sal and Little Bear get a bit turned around and mix themselves up with each other moms! It’s a very cute book!

I’m not going to tell what exactly we did everyday. I’m sure the FIAR folks wouldn’t like that. They would rather you buy the book ;) Here is a basic run down of what we did and extra curricular as well.

No need to worry

Posted on Sep 04, 2008 under Carter, Homeschool | 7 Comments

for anyone who thought I might be homeschooling to keep Carter away from bullies and name calling need not worry. He won’t be living in a small protective little bubble. The neighborhood riff raff have been dishing out an entire school days would in the few hours they have between school and bedtime. They are really toughening him up for me :*(

Ok, I take it back

we went up north for the long weekend and said good bye to summer. It FELT like good bye. Our last swim in the lake, Carter caught his first fish, jumped off the dock for the first time, but it was good bye. All his friends return to school tomorrow. We will celebrate in ‘not back to school’ ways. Including his first ever sleep over at a friends. They do grow up so fast.

Hello fall.

Greenfield Village Uniform

Posted on Aug 20, 2008 under Carter, Pictures | 4 Comments

With the weather being nice we have been going to GV almost weekly. We went last Monday and this is what Carter wore
Ready!
we went yesterday and this is what Carter wore
GV 'uniform'

LOL This was sooo not intentional! In all fairness I usually pick out something orange for him to wear when we go out so I can spot him easily. BUT has has several orange shirts to choose from.
The baseball cap was a birthday gift (thanks Adam and Julie!). I don’t know why he chose to wear the peace necklace both days but both times it was in my pocket within minutes of getting there.

Anyway, I just thought it was a funny coincidence!

The greatest day

Posted on Aug 04, 2008 under Birthdays, Carter, Local Stuff To Do | 6 Comments

It all started with Carter waking around 8am. This is considered sleeping in for our house. Then he quickly realised that his tricky Mom had hid 5’s all over the house. Over 30 of them. He had such fun finding them all! Joy all over his face!
5's everywhere!

more 5's

While in the kitchen he found out mama had another trick up her sleeve. A blueberry pound cake. A total surprise! He’d seen a picture of it months ago in one of my cookbooks and admired it then.
It wasn’t long before presents were opened. Hungry Hippo and A torpedo from Mom, Dad and Sister. We all had fun playing a few rounds of games.

After awhile the little boy access the street came over with a gift of spider man action figures. They played a bit with them and the new tree swing Daddy put up the night before.

Grandma, Grandpa and Auntie Monique arrived EARLY! We had cake and more presents. Yes, he got the light saber he soo wanted and a computer game and a handheld game as well.
Shortly after we all shuffled off to Lower Huron Metropark Turtle Cove. Two water slides, a lazy river, ‘dump Island’, a pool, endless fun. We played till our little toes were soaked and scratched and we were done!

Off to home for more toy playing and resting.
Dinner was the next surprise. We went to a brand new place, Carter was excited. Then after dinner the waitstaff came over and sang. Carter’s expressions were priceless. Bewilderment, surprise, embarrassment, then pure joy. It was the greatest moment to share with him. He’d never seen anything like that before!
What a great birthday! What a great age! No anticipation, no expectations, surprises abound, pure joy.
Thank you Carter for sharing your innocence and happiness with me today. I love you.
