You only turn 3 once We had a great couple of days!
Skye first woke to a room FULL of balloons with 3’s all over them.
She had a few presents and cards to open.
She choose breakfast and we sang to her. After some time to play with her new things, we found her a very pretty, very big purple dress to wear to church. On the way we listened to all the birthday songs we owned. Skye was so pleased with this At church her Kazoo Grandma’s where there waiting in surprise! There was even cake at church on her birthday!
Then off to the mall, where there were MORE presents and we had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. Skye was a hot fudge ice cream for dessert.
Build a Bear was next. Skye choose a Hello Kitty and a few goodies to go with it.
After we said our goodbye’s to all the Grandma’s and Aunt Monique and Brain, we went home for some rest time. It was a great day!
You’d think the birthday celebrations would be over right? The next day we met her friends at Jungle Java, we played for a bit, then headed home for lunch and birthday cupcakes with our friends!
Happy birthday sweet girl! I hope the day was very special for you!!
(I’m pre-releasing this. Skye’s birthday is the 15th)
Looking back at the last year it amazes me just how much Skye has changed and also, how much she hasn’t. She still wears her shoes on the wrong feet, but has recently started to say that hurts. I think she’s figuring it out. Skye still hates her hair ’styled’. Well she likes getting it styled, but won’t keep it that way for long. I’m sure she is just like me. Not a tom-boy, but also not a girly-girl. She has started to seriously love her baby’s. She nurses them, let’s Grandma babysit (um, that’s me.), wheels them around in the stroller, rocks them in their bed, wearing them in a sling… she’s a wonderful mama!
She loves real babies too, maybe too much….
She’s stubborn, which I’m sure she comes by via me. But I recently discovered though her stubborn behavior that you never get what you want when your stubborn
She just learned to wink. She can wink with her left eye. Her finger has to hold down the right eye. Another, just like mama.
She adores Carter and everything he can do. Including the stuff she can’t do….which is difficult but expected.
She’s slightly shy till she gets to know you. She loves her friends, which could be people her age or people my age.
She’s potty trained. Much earlier than Carter was. She does still wear a diaper at night, but most nights it’s dry.
She loves her church class. Most days there are hardly any other kids in there. So it’s almost one on one play time for her!
She’s a great little girl, who knows she’s not a baby, but not a big girl yet.
She’s a snuggler, a bed hog, and a joy to have around!!
Happy 3rd birthday Skye!!
It all started with Carter waking around 8am. This is considered sleeping in for our house. Then he quickly realised that his tricky Mom had hid 5’s all over the house. Over 30 of them. He had such fun finding them all! Joy all over his face!
While in the kitchen he found out mama had another trick up her sleeve. A blueberry pound cake. A total surprise! He’d seen a picture of it months ago in one of my cookbooks and admired it then.
It wasn’t long before presents were opened. Hungry Hippo and A torpedo from Mom, Dad and Sister. We all had fun playing a few rounds of games.
After awhile the little boy access the street came over with a gift of spider man action figures. They played a bit with them and the new tree swing Daddy put up the night before.
Grandma, Grandpa and Auntie Monique arrived EARLY! We had cake and more presents. Yes, he got the light saber he soo wanted and a computer game and a handheld game as well.
Shortly after we all shuffled off to Lower Huron Metropark Turtle Cove. Two water slides, a lazy river, ‘dump Island’, a pool, endless fun. We played till our little toes were soaked and scratched and we were done!
Off to home for more toy playing and resting.
Dinner was the next surprise. We went to a brand new place, Carter was excited. Then after dinner the waitstaff came over and sang. Carter’s expressions were priceless. Bewilderment, surprise, embarrassment, then pure joy. It was the greatest moment to share with him. He’d never seen anything like that before!
What a great birthday! What a great age! No anticipation, no expectations, surprises abound, pure joy.
Thank you Carter for sharing your innocence and happiness with me today. I love you.
Carter is 5. Wow, 5 years getting to know this little soul. It’s gone by so fast. Carter is a wonderful boy. A boy, yes, all the baby is gone now.
I’m really looking forward to what this year, year 5, will bring us. Carter is a thoughtful boy, eager to learn, eager to please, fast to make friends. He loves to play by the rules, but be careful because the rules could change to meet his needs. When there is no one to play with Carter brings out his ‘imagination friends’ Ghost and Submarine. Ghost is cool because he can do WHATEVER he wants, but in races or games Carter always wins. He lives with us, so does his family. He’s always around for Carter to play with.
Speaking of playing with. Carter has become much better about playing with his sister. I’m sure it’s just that they are both a bit older now but they can be engaged in a made up game and play together very well.
Carter can cross the street all by himself. Which is good because there is a little boy across the street who Carter likes very much, they play for hours together without a single disagreement or fight. They are very well suited for each other.
Carter likes all foods. I can’t think of any one thing I would say ‘Carter hates that’. Right now he loves peaches the best. He eats all day long, but it’s no wonder they way that boy plays.
He loves to be loved. He loves to hear he’s loved many times a day. When you get upset with him, he’s worried you don’t like him anymore.
He likes to write letters to friends. He loves having books read to him, either by us or a book on CD.
He loves swimming and has improved a lot since last year.
His favorite game is checkers and can play as much and as often as you’ll play with him.
He’s naturally curious about everything!
He’s a very compassionate little boy. He’s very thoughtful to other people feelings and needs. He loves to give and share anything he has.
Happy birthday sweet boy! Thank you so much for making me the mom I always wanted to be!
It’s been a crazy bad week of sickness and having to cancel some super awesome plans. Today, Skye’s birthday, was no exception. The kids woke around 8:15 am. I knew yesterday that they were sick but we were hoping that the OTC remedy that we were using would fix them by morning. But sadly, no. Carter couldn’t open his eyes, they were gooked shut. Skye was goopy, but not as bad. So, we had to cancel our lunch fondue plans with our neighbors and take the kids to the doctors. Doctor confirmed what I suspected. Pink eye. But worse is Carter has an ear infection. So for the 2nd time in his 4.5 years he must go on antibiotics to clear all this up.
I came home and was feeling really sorry for, not only myself but, poor little Skye, sick on her birthday. No fun. We’d planned to taking her to Build-a-Bear and California Pizza Kitchen for dinner, but not with pink eye. All Skye talked about all week was wanting a yellow cake and party hats for her special day. My heart just ached for her, I hadn’t planned to making a cake today so I didn’t have the stuff.
Earlier my very dear and sweet neighbor friend came over with a gift for Skye. A paint kit! She loves it, can’t wait to dig in! Better yet, a party hat. The perfect party hat for our little girl. She saves the day!
Later, I get a phone call from my friend, Kim. She has heard my whining on our moms group and is also here to save the day. She brought yellow cake, two of them! Yellow frosting, decorations, and she even brought candles! Kim has a heart of gold. She made all of Skye’s cake dreams come true!
After picking Daddy up from work, we had a pizza dinner, followed by painting, baths, cake decorating, cake eating, and presents. We all had to wear our hats the whole time we had cake. We didn’t dare take them off or Skye would quickly let us know we needed to be wearing them.
I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends. I’m not sure what I did to deserve them, but I’m not going to question it.
Our day was actually wonderful. It was quite and just the 4 of us, but it was perfect. Couldn’t have planned it better!
We are planning a nice weekend at home of getting better!
Wow, what a quick two years this has been. Some days I need to remind myself that she’s been here 2 years and not one.
Skye is a very charming little girl, in a very quite way. She loves people as much as her brother ever has. If there is a lap available, she’s in it. Usually with a book in hand. She isn’t afraid to ask for what she wants. She communicates in an unusual way, combining signs, verbal and body language.
She always says no first then yes. She is very independent. Wanting to do everything on her own first. Which is normal, natural and yes, sometimes annoying.
She loves her Auntie Monique and think that she represents everything pretty. She hangs out at the window, wondering if Auntie is coming over. She loves for her to paint her toe nails and play with her.
She loves to laugh and her brother is still a very funny guy to her. She wakes up thinking about him and their hugs before bed are my favorite part of the day!
Skye loves to talk. In the car. Non stop. Mama this, mama that, mama me, mama mine. I’ll take a video of it one day, it’s hard to get a sense of how much she talks till you hear it.
She loves to jump, run, play, get into messes, take baths, be primped, color, use play-dough, and she loves to help mama cook. She thinks all knives and scissors are called ‘ouch!’.
She has too many words to count but they are mostly only understood by me, Paul and sometimes only Carter.
Her favorite color is yellow. She loves to say it, she loves to find it in thing (books, toys…).
When I have tried to steer her to ‘girly’ things, she retreats to the more causal items. For example yesterday we stayed home from a Valentines Day party and I wanted to make the day special for the kids. So I found some dressy pj’s I was saving for Skye. She had zero interested. Went for the cute heart zipper jacket instead. Hello! It had a hood AND pockets. What more could a girl want!?!?
It has been a great year getting know to this little person Skye a bit better. Her personality is becoming more clear and strong. Looking forward to what the next year brings for my little girl (who thinks she’s still a baby!).
Enjoy this year’s slide show and scroll down for last years!
Wow, he’s 4! I wonder what sort of changes we can expect from him? He’s so different from a year ago. Yet so much the same. Curious and wonder surround him. Last night we took him to a magic show and he was the only kid asking ‘how did you do that?’ He is very thoughtful, always thinking of others. A wonderful big brother. He has such a special way with Skye. They crack each other up He get songs stuck in his head (just like Mommy) He loves books He surfs the Internet (what Rescue Hero shall I get next) He’ll eat just about anything. And that of which he doesn’t like he says ‘Mom, I’ll like onions when I get older’ He’s a fish in the water. He loves to do ‘projects’ with mommy and sis He loves doing errands with Daddy He loves his friends He’s an active, happy boy of 4. wow. 4.
Here is a slide show of the changes in my little boy in one year. Last year’s show
